WHO WE ARE

This is our story

BRIEF BACKGROUND

Cicetekelo Youth Project is an emergency and long intervention programme for children living and/or working on the streets. It also provides prevention interventions for other vulnerable or at risk children/youths from ending up on the streets. C.Y.P. is one of the realities under Association Pope John XXIII. The Project began in 1997 with the purpose of assisting 33 male youth picked from a dumping site in one of the high poverty areas of Ndola. C.Y.P. supports OVCs (male and female) from the age of 9 to 22 years and has now grown to an annual capacity of 320 vulnerable children/youth.

INTERVENTION CENTERS

C.Y.P. has 4 phases under 3 intervention centers:

  • LUIGI DROP IN CENTRE
  • NKWAZI COMMUNITY SCHOOL
  • MINSUNDU CENTER

PHASE 1: LUIGI DROP IN CENTRE

Luigi Drop in Center represents the first contact between C.Y.P. and the street children and includes both daily and night outreach activities aimed at monitoring the overall situation in the streets of Ndola.

PHASE 2: MINSUNDU CHILDREN SECTION

Minsundu Children Section is a transitional shelter located in the Minsundu area for children directly retrieved from the street and referred from Luigi Drop In Center. It represents the starting point of a rehabilitation program aimed at either transferring the children to other phases of the project or at reintegrating them back to their families.

PHASE3: NWAZI COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Nkwazi Children Center deals with prevention work. It prevents OVCs from living and working on the street by introducing them to the education system (Community School) or supporting them in Government school. The Community School can accomodate 70 learners annually.

PHASE 4: MINSUNDU YOUTH CENTRE

Minsundu Youth Center is the final stage of the project where youths are empowered with secondary education up to grade 12. Minsundu Youth Centre also houses the C.Y.P. SKILLS TRAINING CENTRE where school vulnerable drop-outs and youths who cannot afford tertiary education can be provided with skill-trainings in agriculture, mechanics or carpentry.
